Madison, South Dakota is located on the eastern edge of the northern Great Plains. South Dakota is 23 000 square miles larger than New York state and has 18 million less people!! Therefore, our lakes get a fraction of the fishing pressure as the New York lakes and rivers.

While you are fishing, expect to see an abundant wildlife population. Common sights while fishing include Buffalo, Pelicans, Cormorants, White-Tail Deer, Pheasants, King Fishers, Grebes, Muskrats, Minks and Bald Eagles.

The population of Madison is five thousand. There is a university and a nice hospital here and it is the county seat for Lake County. There are many attractions in this area including: the Laura Ingalls Wilder homestead and pageant in De Smet, Prairie Village in Madison, the Corn Palace and Cabelas in Mitchell, the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, and several area souvenir shops including Le Petite Boutique in Madison. There are several American Indian casinos in the area offering slot machines and video poker. There are two scenic golf courses near Madison, one of which is on Lake Herman and is an 18-hole Links course. The other golf course is a municipal 9-hole right next to Lake Madison.

While Carp fishing in South Dakota, there are several other species that you can fish for at the same time as Carp. Some of these species include Walleye, Northern Pike, Perch, Channel Catfish, Smallmouth Buffalo and Bullheads. Expect at least one shore lunch of fresh Walleye and Perch fillets.
